True, True Awakening

I'm continuing my series using the Drowned City cards. Some combos are so powerful that they need to be played - Double, Double with True Awakening is just that...

Overview

Campaign starter and planned progression

In the Thick of It makes this a 29 XP deck. I would recommend two physical trauma in case Searching for Izzie starts ruining your good time (True Awakening allows for healing in either case). I thought about Hot Streak a lot on this deck, but I think the card draw of Emergency Cache •• actually works much better. 0 XP deck is below (and link here).

Final thoughts

This deck is powerful - probably my strongest of the series alongside the Amanda deck - because here you really don't have to test very often. Particularly at two-player where the testless clues on offer here are substantial, I don't think I realised how strong this could be. Jenny is also the perfect investigator for the deck, as the extra resource per upkeep is very significant with a lot of your events costing two or multiples of two (e.g. Counterespionage and Intel Report costing 4 when paying for their add-ons).

In one on my playtests (Film Fatale), I managed to: cycle twice healing that horror with Peter, play Extensive Research and Intel Report (two clues) twice each, double double Sneak Attack, double double Emergency Cache •• and True Awakening multiple times, finish two Elites off with Blood-Rite, as well as do several successful tests with Lockpicks • and Bum's Rush. Double doubling your resource cards is frankly bonkers, and when I did draw Leo De Luca I could pay his steep cost without care.

I've wanted to make big-hand pay-to-win Jenny for a while, and with TDC and True Awakening it became so much easier. If you want a powerhouse deck, you won't be disappointed!

Since this runs one single accessory and runs enough card draw to cycle the whole deck, could The Red Clock synergize well instead of the upgraded Lucky Cigarette Case?

@PaperCryptid Thanks for the comment. Personally for decks which cycle I think any additional card draw is a good thing, and beyond that when you've cycled then - as Lucky Cigarette Case ••• allows for tutoring - it enables you to get at your True Awakening and Extensive Research again faster (and is easily triggerable on a Lockpicks • test even with Jenny's iffy statline).

I also like cards with reliable effects, and with The Red Clock while all the effects are useful the strange grab bag of powers it offers don't always land at an optimal time. I suppose it's free resources as well periodically, but this deck doesn't really hurt for cash (when you Double, Double one Emergency Cache •• then with upkeep as well that's 8 resources in a round).

As always though make these decks your own! If you try it with The Red Clock let me know what you thought to it.

Amazing to see some love for good ol' Jenny Barnes.

It's really one of the few investigators remaining for whom there weren't any good updated decks available.

And while I wasn't so sure by Double, Double True Awakening at a first glance, reading your description made me realise how good it is. I will definitely try this deck out and recommend it to any future player wanting to play the dilettante.

Congrats on this achievement!

@Valentin1331 Thanks for the praise! Yeah Jenny hasn't had too many strong decks recently and there's also very few big hand Jenny decks out there either which makes this a nice change of pace.

I did have a look at what other Jenny decks had been posted recently and were popular, and I thought this one by Tùng Râu looked really cool. Most of the other popular decks though are 3+ years old, so I think it's fun to spotlight something new that an older investigator can do. Going forward I think when I make any legacy environment decks, I'll do it when there is an especially good combo with an old investigator and the new card set - but I'll try to play current otherwise...

She should really have Socialite, too.

@MrGoldbee Hard agree! At least they added it for Parallel Jenny. Squeezing in a Name Your Price would have been fun (but would have likely needed more resource economy, as this deck is good at spending its cash). Also not a Double, Double target as it's removed from the game.

I think a proto-version of this deck was Name Your Price Skids, looking at crazy auto-damage with Dynamite Blast. I couldn't quite make it work, but the same train of thought filtered into this.

Damn, this deck is strong. I have tried a couple of times and in everyone of them performed greatly. Even when my two basic weeknesses in a 19xp stand-alone were amnesia and unspeakable oath. Literally, lose your whole hand , but two turns after it was already recovered and running again. Great idea! <3

@Extremyx Thank you, that's what I like to hear! Yeah in all my testing it performed really well - I think the lowkey really good thing about the deck is Occult Lexicon and so testless damage Blood-Rite (and for Blood-Rite also then serving as a myriad card for Dream-Enhancing Serum). It really has everything you need!

Beat me to it, although if anyone is interested for some more fun alternatives to this type of deck, I had a similar core idea but instead leaning into Synergy cards that loved to be doubled as well with Cheat the System and Call for Backup. Along with True Awakening and Emergency Cache look at that triple 2 EXP neutral card trouble!

As we now have a great lvl 0 Mystic perm in The Great Work along with of course Charon's Obol to ramp quickly to Double, Double shenanigans.

Used Lexicon/Dream, Hallowed Mirror, and Tennessee Sour Mash -> Unscrupulous Loan for the Yellow/Blue/Red pickups. Having both Call for Backup/Hallowed Mirror got me pretty well covered on the health/sanity even for the team. As double Soothing Melodies or Calls makes everyone happy at a table. Although if someone else was running Short Rest along with me would likely sub it in as well instead of "You've had worse...".
