A quick rummage through his standard-issue satchel yields a half-used matchbox. He pulls out two matches for good measure, and covering the strike from the wind with his torso, lights up the ends. Quickly he slides the latch to the lantern's door, opening it and pressing the stubs to the kerosene spout. One twist of the knob later, and the silent wooosh of gas ignites into a softly roaring flame. Patrol Officer Muldoon finishes the mundane yet involved task of activating his lantern, and once in hand, swings it over the bloodstained, cobblestone road.

Tetsuo, his partner for the night shift's beat, had taken the initiative and was assessing the remains of a John or Jane Doe with his flashlight, but the breadth that said remains had been spread over Mistakonic Bridge warranted a source of light with a wider angle of illumination. Now that the scene of the crime had been revealed in all its grisly detail, Tommy pressed his temples with one hand, covering his eyesight, and willing himself to overpower the nausea that was bubbling up from his stomach. He has no greenhorn; a family full of law enforcement meant he had seen the darker side of organised crime with his own eyes from a young age. But Arkham had a way of turning mundane atrocities into downright supernatural experiences.

Case in point, with the eerie fog rolling downriver over the bridge, and high winds catching at his coat and necessitating their eyes squint through the churning air, he and Tetsuo had not noticed the body until they were among it, surrounded by it.

"Look what I found", mused Tetsuo, snapping Tommy back to present. He had a wallet gripped with his out-stretched hand, held only by an index finger and thumb so as to minimise contact with the drying blood. "Not a crime motivated by greed then."

"Go call it in. There's a police box at the end of the bridge. I'll stay here and 'keep civilians from disrupting the crime scene'", Tetsuo sardonically said, quoting the procedure book that they both knew off by heart. The bridge was deserted and they hadn't seen a soul in the past hour, but Tetsuo was too noble for his own good, putting his faith in proper procedure. Tommy for his part was relieved for the excuse to step away from the remains, and took heart that the crime scene was safe in Tetsuo's hands.

At the bridge's abutment, Tommy found the police box inlaid into the wall next to the door that led to the bridge's underbelly. He took out his old keyring and unlocked the weathered box, revealing the telephone with a direct line to the station. As he was about to pick up the phone off the receiver, he saw the blood trail leading under the door. It seems the two of them had the wrong place, if the right time. There may be a second victim, who may yet be saved.

Procedure dictated he must leave all evidence alone and wait for the detectives to arrive before pursuing any leads, and that he should never try to be a hero. Tommy certainly aspired to be the model policeman. Yet with the scene of horrid death still fresh in his mind, could he really leave a theoretical victim in distress alone?

He answered his own question as he bee-lined for his and Tetsuo's motorcycle, retrieving his Custom Marlin Model 1894, and his Flak Armor. The self-sacrifice to his career was assured, but if there was something worth fighting for, it was the second half of the motto on his badge; To serve and protect.

One, two, three good kicks and he had breached the door, lantern swinging underneath his firearm as he aimed into the inky blackness of the descending stairwell. And without thinking, he descends down with no hesitation, making the rookie mistake of separating from his partner without informing them of his destination.

Playstyle and Piloting

  • This is a cluever/support deck for the first 20 or so xp, and will a focus on shroud reduction and Shed a Light.
  • There should be no hesitation when the choice to take damage/horror presents itself; aim to give your assets with health/sanity the shortest lifespan possible.
  • The lone exception to this rule is a single copy of Something Worth Fighting For. This is your sacrificial lamb for Rookie Mistake. Hunter's Armor and Tetsuo Mori are too valuable to be lost like this.
  • You should aim to boost your Breach the Door test with Overpower, Take the Initiative, or Becky. Becky is particularly good for this since you will likely never play Becky, and Tetsuo Mori can fish it out of your discard pile, allowing it to be comitted to tests multiple times.
  • The main weakness of this deck is action intensiveness. Playing your assets again and again will eat into your action economy a lot. The lvl 0 deck also has a card draw issue, which the first line of upgrades will seek to tackle.
