"I'm putting together a team" : The Many Faces of Charlie Kane vs Drawn to the Flame
This is the deck we put together as part of the MANY FACES OF CHARLIE KANE community project!
On the show we narrowed down two themes we wanted to lean into from the factions we were assigned: from Rogue, we went with a 'excess success' build, based on Charlie's ability to smash one test per turn by committing and exhausting Allies; and from Survivor, we looked to use some 'fail tech' cards (or at least cards that don't care about your stats) in order to make good use of our other actions.
As it turned out, we only really looked at "Look what I found!" from the 'fail tech', and we ended up going more into 'low stat boosting' effects from the factions, with Trial by Fire and Rise to the Occasion (and of course Miss Doyle, who is just a fantastic match for Charlie).
We also built into the trifecta of Calling in Favors, Hit and Run, and A Chance Encounter to reccur / find our Allies, and then built the deck out with some 'comes into play' effect utility Allies like Art Student and Laboratory Assistant.
The deck is roughly planned to be played in a 3 or 4 player team to complement a dedicated Enemy Manager and / or Cluer. Charlie can turn his hand to anything, and can reasonably to expect to pass any test probably once per turn. Need someone to grab a clue from a high shroud location? Evade an enemy? Punch one single guy?
This one test will be the one you pour your icons into, triggering your Gregory Gry and your Lucky Cigarette Case. If you can get your Momentum into that test, even better: you can likely crush a second test that turn too! You can also pop your Trial by Fire if you need some consistency in your turn.
Upgrades
For levelling up, we think the ultimate goal should be to go for our old friend The Red-Gloved Man. Our trio of Ally events let us sidestep his drawback and drop him on the table over and over, for a bunch of power turns. In the mean time, there's a load of smaller Allies you can grab to flesh out the team, depending on where your weak spots are: Field Agent if you're struggling for clues, Beat Cop if you're struggling with damage. Jeremiah Kirby is obviously a great card, but his stats help boost your intellect more reliably. As you're slightly tilted towards evasion, Pickpocketing is probably worth a look too...
About the Many Faces of Charlie Kane
As part of this event organised by community legend Veronica, ten different content creators are showcasing Charlie Kane using a different set of off-class deckbuilding rules.

How to listen to the 'cast
Drawn to the Flame is a podcast in which Frank and Peter speak sometimes fortnightly, sometimes monthly on Arkham Horror: The Card Game: The Living Card game. You can find them on all good podcasting apps, and find our Charlie Kane episode over here.
Thank you for posting your deck! May I ask how you spend the initial 3 XP from In the Thick of It?
