Awhile back I did a run of Forgotten Age on a four person team as Yorick based on this deck: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/10151/gunner-yorick-1.0 I chose it just to play something besides a boring Machete deck, but with the new taboo list out this archtype is now one of the more consistent options.
The deck did tons of damage, and the Act of Desperation combo with Yorick's signature ability kept that Old Hunting Rifle full of ammo (aka the Hobo Reload). But the ever present threat of the Rifle jamming was a major problem, and I had to have teammates bail me out a few times when it happened and almost died because of it more than once. Luckily those zero cost soak cards can see the board 2-3 times in a single game if there are enough enemies to kill.
Then recently Eucatastrophe was spoilered and I realized it was the cure to that problem, and that Yorick's effect can be repeatedly abused with it.
This deck is focused on killing and basically nothing else ("Look what I found!" excepted)
Gameplay:
The ideal combo here is to always have a Eucatastrophe in hand when taking Rifle attacks and one in your discard. If the Rifle jams, play Eucatastrophe to win the check and choose the other Eucatastrophe as your return card.
Mulligan hard for Yaotl and a weapon, preferably the Rifle but Enchanted Blade can get you started if you have to.
Yaotl is the key to consistency. Use him in every phase until your discard pile is seeded with your combo pieces:
- Eucatastrophe
- Resourceful
- Rifle (if not already in play)
- Leather Coat and Cherished Keepsake are nice to have around as zero cost options to return to play if you kill something
From there the only tough part of playing is keeping enough cash on hand to keep playing Eucatastrophe.
It's incredibly versatile as well if you don't need to output huge damage. For instance if you take an Investigate check on up to a 4 shroud location and draw at least a -2 value token, Eucatastrophe lets you win that check and return a card to hand still.
Upgrade path:
For the base deck:
- Old Hunting Rifle -> .45 Automatic or .45 Thompson are both fine
- Eucatastrophe -> Live and Learn
- Yaotl -> Guard Dog
Further upgrades:
Consider pulling "Look what I found!" as your investigate focused teammates ramp up, and if you're hitting hard enough with the rifle Overpower can even go. (In no particular order)
- A Test of Will to keep you safe from the nasty mythos deck
- Ever Vigilant to help with the weak econ
- Lucky! (2) free card!
- Emergency Cache (2) free card!
- Unexpected Courage -> Cornered
