Scalpel & Sketches – A Vincent Lee Deck Focused on Items and Versatility “Bandages, pills… and a touch of opium.”
This is my approach to creating an engaging deck for Vincent Lee, one that leans heavily into assets, especially those with the Item trait. It's a deck that thrives on versatility and adaptability — just what you'd expect from a seasoned surgeon.
Well, Vincent may be a good cluever and quite nice fighter. Let's start with Geared Up. This card combinet with a lot of assets with item trait, can set you up in round 1. Heavy mulligan for any items, that can be usefull as the game starts - 1 weapon: Machete, Bonesaw and 1 Magnifying Glass. If you are lucky to get in opening hand Schoffner's Catalogue you can put in in play with discont and therefore afford most of your gear later.
Tool Belt can be useful for juggling items. When there are no enemies around, you can hold two Magnifying Glasses in your hands, and then quickly swap one out for a Bonesaw. Need a Pocket Telescope, just swap it.
I was wondering which ally to include. Dr. Milan Christopher is fine — a safe choice. But he feels a bit overused and boring. I considered swapping him out for Dr. Charles West III The additional hand slot for an item is a welcome bonus.
Vincent is a surgeon, so of course he carries bandages (Bandages, pills (First Aid, and opium (Smoking Pipe. He got wild running with Wolf Mask. However I'm still wondering swaping masks for more events. We want to heal people often to giving people On the Mend cards.
Cherished Keepsake helps him with low sanity. Scavenging The Scavenging Scavenging card lets you fish used Bandages and Keepsake out of the discard pile. If things get tense, we can swap the Cherished Keepsake for the Hallowed Mirror.
The deck includes a few events. The classic "Look What I Found!" "Look what I found!"turns failures into clues. Preposterous Sketches Preposterous Sketchesacts as a tutor for new cards. Shortcut Shortcut to save on moves (however I wonder to change this card to something else) and Testing Sprint Testing Sprint add an interesting twist to grabbing multiple clues in a single turn.
Nothing fancy in skill cards. Guts, perception and unexpected courage.
I haven’t tested this deck yet, but I’m excited to see how it performs across a few scenarios. On paper, it looks like a flexible and flavorful build that stays true to Vincent’s theme while offering lots of decision-making and synergy.
