I wanted to wait until I had something special before I published my first deck and I think I have something here. To preserve my ego, I refuse to look at the comments section. I really like interesting mechanics and I wanted to see if I could so something interesting with this discard thing ole George is doing here. I had a few thoughts, but my first was to utilize three pools for cards:
- Your hand
- The Cards Under George
- Your Discard Pile
If you do things correctly, you can use each card two times. Forced Learning is absolutely key to keeping a great hand size, but because you can put the discarded card under George and then draw, your actual hand can get out of control. You essentially draw two every upkeep. To counter that, I wanted to make sure you can have a big hand size, which is why I went full Seeker with Laboratory Assistant and Arcane Enlightenment. The latter is also great with the two tomes Occult Lexiconand Grim Memoir.
I really like both of the accessories, but those who have more restraint may only want one. If that is the case, In the Thick of It and Relic Hunter are completely adjustable. Or you swap it out with Charisma because Lawrence Carlisle is essential, and Laboratory Assistant helps keep the draw engine lubricated.
As for upgrades, the first one is obviously Cornered. This completely changes the dynamic of your "Under George" cards because you can discard a single symbol card and get +2, then commit it for another symbol. It gets crazy. After that, you can just upgrade your skill cards or even decide to take the clue path, or the fight path.
We haven't even discussed the options in your discard pile, which can be added there through Forced Learning, and later through Cornered. With Persistence, you can discard it for two, then use it from your discard pile for an additional symbol. Getting cards to, and using them from the discard pile has never been easier!
No matter which way you go, with George Barnaby, Esq., you will always be master of three domains.
