I have a confession to make... I don't normally like to play as Agnes Baker.

I know she can be good but Dark Memory is a brutal weakness. The doom clock controls when bad things happen to your team and she speeds it up (and loses an action and resources she needs for other things). So I designed this deck to never play Dark Memory

So how is this going to work?

  1. I needed everyone's favorite boyfriend Peter Sylvestre. He can absorb half of the horror I'll take each turn from holding Dark Memory and I can upgrade him for a Willpower boost.
  2. I initially slotted in both Holy Rosary and Cherished Keepsake in order to help soak the horror that Peter Sylvestre couldn't take. However, this would require using a lot of actions to play these soaks. I decided the better option was using the upgraded Scavenging to be able to play the Cherished Keepsake repeatedly without using actions.
  3. Since I was already taking Scavenging, I decided it would be fun to also take Leather Coat and play parallel Agnes Baker's front side so I could abuse her ability to play events cheaply by taking damage (still using the original back for access to survivor cards).
  4. If I'm not playing Dark Memory, I might as well substitute in the advanced version Dark Memory. It is no worse when holding it in your hand and I get the better version of Heirloom of Hyperborea for some extra soaks.
  5. After this, it was mostly just filling in the rest of the deck with events for parallel Agnes Baker to play. The only other assets I added were Sixth Sense to reliably be able to use Scavenging and Scroll of Prophecies for some extra card draws to find what I need.

This is the 0 XP version for starting a campaign and the side deck is full of upgrade possibilities. The upgrades are mostly spell events to better abuse Agnes Baker's ability and better versions of her starting assets.

I also included one oddball upgrade suggestion: Gravedigger's Shovel. It can be nice card to recur using Scavenging to give you a guaranteed clue (or 2) for an action. I haven't tested that combination at all but it felt like fun when looking through the upgrade options.

Notes:

  1. This deck can soak a ton of both horror and damage so you shouldn't have too much trouble staying alive.
  2. There are a lot of assets to get into play to make everything click. Don't be afraid to draw some cards to get setup quicker.
  3. You will often be better off committing items like Cherished Keepsake into skill tests and getting them into play with Scavenging to save an action (assuming you can over succeed on an investigate). You could try this on Scroll of Prophecies as well but if you need the scroll in play you are probably missing critical assets.
  4. This deck focuses more on clues but you have enough events for combat/evade/enemy management that you can perform a flex role pretty well. The fact that you can reshuffle spell events back into your deck means that you can see a lot of them over the course of a game esp. once you get Heirloom of Hyperborea into play. (Don't forget to get Relic Hunter at some point.)
  5. There are a lot of spell events that I rarely play because they are too expensive for most mystics to afford them. I love that parallel Agnes Baker's discount really incentivizes you to try using them so I included a lot of expensive spell events to have some fun with (so my choices may not be optimized to your play style).
  6. You may want Down the Rabbit Hole. There are a lot of card upgrades you want (Scavenging, Peter Sylvestre, Sixth Sense, Storm of Spirits, Ward of Protection, etc.) so you may be XP ahead for most of the campaign by taking it.
  7. Word of Command is a really nice card for making this deck play better. It is cheap for you to play and lets you find the spell you need now.
  8. Constructive comments/criticism welcome but remember that it is just a game and we should all be having fun.
