'Deceiving' Trish Scarborough
"Do not call up that which you cannot put down." H.P. Lovecraft - The Case of Charles Dexter Ward
For my run through the Innsmouth Conspiracy campaign, I really wanted to play a Rogue character for the thematic feel of the campaign. Finn didn't make the cut and Preston just felt weird to me, so then we arrived at Trish. I found a nice decklist written by Frost for her and tested it out. Boy, does it work like a charm!
Assets
This deck doesn't run much assets, but the ones that are in here are highly important for the deck to function. This means you should always mulligan hard for Dr. William T. Maleson and Obfuscation (later on replaced by Lola Santiago)
-
As previously stated, Dr. William T. Maleson is critical for this deck to get running as efficient as possible. We don't have all that much health and other action-givers, so we will want to avoid as many enemies as possible. Don't use the good doctor for any other encounters cards unless you really, really have to.
-
Even with the good doctor in play, there will obviously still be enemies coming our way. Many of these can be evaded with our character reactive action, but it still triggers an AoO when activating. Enter Obfuscation to avoid these attacks.
-
Hawk-Eye Folding Camera will be your main buff asset in the beginning of the campaign. You'll be picking up clues without any problems at all, so you should have this running at max capacity in no-time.
-
Make sure to run Pickpocketing double so you can activate it every time you evade an enemy. Since evading is testless for Trish, this means you can cycle through your deck quickly enough to find your other valuable cards.
"Now you see me..." - Obfuscation, 2020
Events
With your assets in play (hopefully), we can start by playing the assets when they're most needed. Most of them will need to be assessed according to the game state, but here is the general gist of all the events in this deck.
-
You'll want to evade all the enemies you encounter by cycling them away with Dr. William T. Maleson or evading them when they do spawn. But when none of these will do, there's Backstab to deal some damage to the higher health enemies. For the lower health enemies, I'd suggest using Sneak Attack.
-
A lot of these cards will cost you 2 or more resources, and since we're not running Lone Wolf in this deck, the resources won't come all that quick. To compensate, there's Crack the Case to get back some nice amounts of resources when you picked up a clue at a high shroud location (remember, you don't have to do an investigate for this, you can also pick it up with other events or even Lola Santiago)
-
Deep Knowledge adds to the economy aspect of the deck, since it let's you draw additional cards, thus adding to the chance for you to grab your essentials.
-
The plan for this deck is to avoid as much of the enemies as you can, by cycling the encounter deck or evading them when they do get to the table. Since there isn't all that much damage soak in this deck, you'll want to have Logical Reasoning as a back-up for when you do get hit.
-
Shortcut just helps you to get around even quicker, fantastic card for this deck!
-
Finally, there's Working a Hunch to grab all those clues even quicker. Since we will be running true solo with this deck, you can use this to grab the (usual) only clue on a location, enjoy your reactive character action and evade an enemy and still have your 3 actions remaining to get away from it.
"You know this town like the back of your hand" - Shortcut, 2016
Skills
This deck isn't all that skill dependent, but obviously there are still some in here to help us boost when needed.
-
Deduction can be very useful when those rare locations with clues 2. Just test for the one, grab the second with Deduction and keep enjoying your character reactive action.
-
Some of those high shroud locations may be tricky and interesting at the same time. Interesting because they scream to have Crack the Case played on them. To make sure you pass the test on these locations, we can use Inquiring Mind to give us that extra power, effectively investigating for 8 when combined with the Hawk-Eye Folding Camera. This will ramp up even more when we start upgrading..
-
As always, some of the corebox skills will give us that extra bit of stability where we need it. In this case we have a single Manual Dexterity, two Perception's and two Unexpected Courage's.
"I knew I had seen this symbol before. I must warn the others before it is too late!" - Deduction, 2016
Campaign upgrades
-
1st Lola Santiago Obfuscation since Lola doesn't trigger AoO with her free trigger ability. Also, she boosts our 2 most used skills!
-
Charisma to have Lola Santiago running next to, the still much needed, Dr. William T. Maleson.
-
2nd Lola Santiago Obfuscation for the same reasons as aforementioned.
-
Perception Perception, do I really need to explain these benefits?
-
Pathfinder Shortcut. Run it twice and you'll never be dependent on those events again. Since it's a free trigger, you'll be running across the scenario constantly.
-
Another Day, Another Dollar helps to get you set up quick, also to pay for those Hot Streak's quicker.
-
Hot Streak Crack the Case. It can really help to pay for Lola Santiago triggers, but is hard to pull off in my opinion.
-
Streetwise is an awesome card for consistency in your most used skills.
-
Blasphemous Covenant is an awesome card for this deck since we're running Deep Knowledge and it turns those Curse tokens into +1's.
-
Manipulate Destiny Sneak Attack to give even more power to your punch with the added Curse tokens. Also, a tiny chance to heal yourself for what it's worth.
-
Gaze of Ouraxsh Backstab for even MORE consistent damage doing.
This deck is shamelessly copied of the Scarboro Solo deck by Frost and has only be customized slightly, so thanks to him for making this aweomse Trish deck a reality! https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/26096/scarboro-solo-1.0
