Yet Another Joe Diamond Deck
Circle Undone Blind Playthrough
Hello! This is my deck for a two-player Circle Undone campaign. My fellow player is using Diana Stanley. I’m the primary clue-gatherer, but we’re both kind of rocking jacks-of-all-trades decks.
This deck was heavily inspired by Zach’s deck for the Team Covenant stream, but I personally didn’t love the Archaic Glyphs. I’ve also used guidance from the Drawn to The Flame podcast, namely that the hunch deck is great for clue gathering and card draw, and the main deck is for everything else.
Going in, I was super worried about Joe’s low willpower score, which is reflected in the skills I’ve slotted. Two scenarios in, I believe that fear was warranted, but I’m not sure I’ve done enough to solve that fully.
The Hunch Deck
As this is my first campaign with Joe, I was excited to maximize the resource reduction of the hunch deck. All of my hunches are the two-cost cards in the deck list. These cards are aimed at gathering up clues and drawing cards. I imagine my future upgrades will follow this line of thinking.
Shortcut is much better in the main deck, even without the cost reduction benefit.
The Main Deck
As discussed above, my aim with the main deck was to help me do things other than just soak up clues (I’ve already played Rex Murphy - I want to do something other than just vacuum up clue tokens this time around).
Covenant’s inclusion of Practice Makes Perfect was inspired. I’ve never included many skills in my previous decks, thinking events and assets offered more flexibility. Two scenarios into Circle Undone, I’m loving the real flexibility I’m experiencing with a hand flooded (in a good way) with skill cards that offer incredible benefit in addition to their icons. Add in the fantastic [Grisly Totem] (/card/05119) and you can pass some pretty formidable skill checks.
Other highlights include:
-
Using Alice Luxley instead of Dr. Milan Christopher - this was mostly a decision based on wanting to try a new card, but I’m liking the benefit she provides more than Christopher with this deck, especially post-Taboo. I have felt a little resource-strapped, but I still like the choice.
-
Dr. William T. Maleson is another selection based on having never used him AND a healthy fear of the Mythos deck. He hasn’t actually hit the table yet, so I can’t speak to his value, and with the upgrade of Forewarned, I’m not sure if he’s a keeper.
-
Hawk-Eye Folding Camera is great and I love it. But only if I get it out early. I will mulligan really hard to get it in my opening hand. So far, I’ve had both it and the Totem in my starting hands. I hope I can keep that streak alive.
-
Only slotting one each of Curiosity and Eureka!. This decision is based on lack of experience. I just don’t know which is better and I couldn’t choose between the two.
Future Upgrades
-
Cryptic Research- Replacing Preposterous Sketches, because Fast OR Logical Reasoning, because I haven’t really been able to make it fire yet. I do think it will be more valuable/playable as we get further into the campaign
-
Upgrade No Stone Unturned
-
Upgrade Deduction
-
Upgrade Vicious Blow
I’d love any thoughts or guidance folks would care to offer.
