Basic Roland deck that I've put together before my first run through in the campaign. I plan on playing co-op with Wendy Adams. I haven't actually played the game yet, so it remains to be seen if any of this will work out. Some thoughts on the card selections...

  • Roland's main weakness as far as I can see is his very low Sanity pool. He's crazy good at fighting, but since many enemies deal both physical and mental damage, Roland can only tank as well as his Sanity can allow it. I expect First Aid to be vital in helping the good detective not go crazy, as well as the Dodge card. This is also why I opted to add a copy of Guts, to help boost his against any nasty Encounter cards. His will is good, but not great enough to make me comfortable with only 5 Sanity.

  • A lot of the really good Guardian cards are very expensive to play, and Roland doesn't have any really good ways to generate resources outside of Emergency Cache. Cards like .45 Automatic and Beat Cop are amazing, but I can't justify loading the deck up with expensive cards if my only plan to get them into play is to just stall for resources, so I cut the top-heavy cards to one copy while including more copies of cheaper, more niche cards like Evidence! and Working a Hunch. I may go back and re-evaluate this after the first game if I find myself with more resources than I thought.

  • Roland's hand slots are at a premium, I really want to have something to help him investigate (like Magnifying Glass or Flashlight) as well as a weapon to help expedite the killing. I figure his high combat stat, plus Vicious Blow and his other combat boosting non-weapon cards should allow me to get away with fewer weapons in the deck, so I have fewer redundant hand cards. I'm very tempted to add a second copy of Old Book of Lore, possibly cutting Dr. Milan Christopher, to make it more likely to be able to draw the cards I need sooner, but at the same time, I need to prioritize Roland's hand slots so... We'll see how things go after my first test drive.
