In this guide, I'll be talking about an example Rita Young deck then going over possible upgrades using only cards from two Core Sets and the cards from their native cycle as a resource for new players. If you do not have multiple core sets, I highly recommend either purchasing a second, or proxying the cards you are missing.
On first glance, Rita looks like she's build to evade, evade, evade. This isn't wrong, but it turns out just evading kinda doesn't win the game. So, this build will be looking to leverage that strong evasion and the free damage from her reaction to help safely take down monsters, along with a few other tricks.
Everything in this deck is trying to squeeze out just a little bit more, or get incidental value. Meat Cleaver and Baseball Bat are the weapons available, and are both serviceable. Grisly Totem will hopefully make attacking more safe and get a little more oomph out of your limited skills, while Act of Desperation will get a little more out of your weapons. Track Shoes makes your evasion attempts all but guaranteed and helps you be where you need to be. "Look what I found!" and Belly of the Beast will help your team with clues, and Drawing Thin is here to fuel it all.
Upgrades for the Athlete look pretty good with Lucky!, Close Call and Will to Survive out of the Core. Her home cycle brings the red tinted Tennessee Sour Mash and Grisly Totem to the table as well as Fortune or Fate and Eucatastrophe if you find yourself looking for a miracle.
Hopefully this has helped some new players to deck build with limited resources. Initially I'll probably be jumping around between the cycles for these write-ups to get around two done per cycle, then I'll go back and try to fill stuff in.
