This is my new solo Duke build incorporating the newly released 'Dark Horse.' This card is incredibly powerful giving a static boost to all your stats. But a different deck archetype is definitely needed to take advantage of the boost. This is a deck that specializes in succeeding with limited resources.

I've chosen to make this a asset and skill heavy deck. The goal is to be able to get out what assets I need, especially those that further boost his stats, and then stay obviously low on resources. The boost stats I get from Dark Horse and other cards like holy rosary, peter Sylvestre, magnifying glass, etc. helps to make this an incredibly consistent deck and successfully pass most tests it comes up against.

Fire axe is an obvious include in this deck to take advantage of the low or zero resources that this deck will hover around.

I did not include many events for now as I often won't have or won't want to have the resources to pay for them as I want to have Dark Horse activated as often as possible.

It may not be an immediate upgrade but this may be the first deck I upgrade to the card Relic Hunter so I can have both rabbbits foot and holy rosary in play at the same time which both have little effects that I like a lot - cheap static stat boost and card draw.

Rise to the occasion is another interesting and very good skill in this deck as ashcan's BASE stats are quite low so you'll often be up against a test that is two above your base skill though with all the stat boosts found with Dark Horse, peter Sylvester, holy rosary, magnifying glass, etc., you'll be in great position to pass that big important test that you need to pass.

With all the static stat boosts of the assets and the inclusion of many skill cards, this will be very well rounded and consistent deck and able to pass most of the tests it goes up against. Obviously it will take advantage of scavenging shenanigans to get back your holy rosarys, leather coats, etc. Ashcan, aka Duke, is an incredibly effective solo investigator and with Dark Horse is a powerhouse and able to do a lot with just a little.

Be aware if you use Duke your base stat line changes so Rise to the Occasion will be less functional.

@Difraktyeah I knew that. With Duke being able to be used a max of twice per turn (not including if you draw the elder sign), you will have to rely on other means of fighting and investigating or whatever. So yeah I've still found it valuable for that big fight test against a boss or whatever

Oh, it might be good to put in Dig Deep and/or Arcane Studies, then upgrade with Scrapper first, considering you would want ways to dump any excess money you might have. Also Lucky! might still be worth considering. Love Dark Horse and your build is pretty great!

@DOSbearthank you. Yeah I love your thoughts. So I've actually tweaked this deck some including pulling both holy rosary as my first upgrades will be peter Sylvestre who will give me that bump in willpower (and agility). I've also added in two forbidden knowledge and two lucky's as I love that ability to take a resource or two on demand when I need it to pump up the fire axe or to pay for a lucky and be able to put that horror on Peter who will heal one every turn. I love all the talents but I've been pretty happy once I get my assests out (dark Horse, Peter, fire axe, magnifying glass, etc) I end up not taking that resource in the upkeep phase to make sure Dark Horse is turned on and it's been amazing so far. I'm through the first 3 scenarios of the dunwich campaign and I've pretty much breezed through them. It's been a blast. Quite different from the other solo investigator I've been running which is Jenny Barnes with lone wolf, streetwise, Dr. Milan, etc as she's swimming in money :)

I don't see the problem with Duke and Dark Horse.Dark Horse does not say it raises your base stat with 1. It simply says you get +1 across the board.

Using Duke your base stat for combat or intellect becomes 4, and Dark Horse raises it to 5 if you have no resources.

"Limit Per Investigator" is not in deck, but in play?
