Kōfuku Narukami – The Rule of Three

This deck is built around one simple principle: everything comes in threes. Once I noticed that pattern, the entire deck started building itself.

Almost every part of the deck supports another. Arcane Initiate and Occult Lexicon provide the consistency you need to assemble your engine, while multiple Spell assets—Armageddon, Shroud of Shadows, and the Lexicon itself—ensure that Arcane Initiate always has worthwhile targets.

The bless and curse package is equally interconnected. Ancestral Token, Absolution, and Guided by Faith generate Bless tokens, while Accursed, Wicked Athame, and Antediluvian Hymn generate or reward Curse tokens. Tempt Fate ties the entire package together by contributing to both sides of the chaos bag, making Rod of Carnamagos one of the deck's strongest payoff cards.

Resources are another important piece of the puzzle. Rite of Sanctification provides discounts throughout the scenario, while Occult Lexicon quietly contributes to your economy by turning easy enemies into resources. In the early turns, don't underestimate Blood-Rite—it often lets you remove small enemies while accelerating your setup.

The biggest lesson I've learned from playing Kōfuku is that he isn't immediately powerful—he grows into it.

Your first few turns are all about establishing your board. You want your tomes, your spells, your economy, and your token engine online. Once that happens, Kōfuku transforms into one of the strongest all-around investigators I've played.

With the engine assembled, he becomes an excellent fighter through Armageddon, Spectral Razor, Storm of Spirits, and Wicked Athame, while Read the Signs lets him contribute meaningful clue acceleration whenever the team needs it. Unlike many Mystics, he can also generate additional actions, something the class rarely has access to, giving him exceptional action compression once his engine is running.

The deck-building approach reminds me of Alexander Zorzi in that both investigators rely on assembling a powerful engine before reaching their full potential. However, they play very differently once that engine is online.

One thing I would strongly recommend is owning The Innsmouth Conspiracy investigator cards. Armageddon, Rite of Sanctification, and Tempt Fate don't just improve Kōfuku—they feel essential. Without them, he loses a significant amount of consistency and power. It genuinely feels like he was designed with these cards in mind.

Another standout card is Occult Lexicon. I originally picked up the The Circle Undone investigator expansion largely for this card, and it has exceeded my expectations. It smooths your early game, removes small enemies efficiently, provides valuable card draw, and even helps stabilize your economy while you're setting up.

The deck becomes even stronger with experience. Ancient Covenant is probably my favorite upgrade, allowing Bless tokens to become guaranteed successes exactly when they matter most. It lets Kōfuku pass tests he has no business passing—turning even difficult Agility treacheries into manageable obstacles despite his base Agility of only 1.

Overall, Kōfuku Narukami is probably my favorite investigator at the moment. He's incredibly flexible, capable of fighting, investigating, supporting teammates, manipulating the chaos bag, and generating extra actions—all in the same scenario. The catch is that he asks for patience. If your opening goes poorly, you'll definitely feel it. But if your team can buy you those first few turns and your engine comes together, Kōfuku doesn't just keep up—he takes over the game.
