Introduction

This is the revised version of my previous Dexter True Magick deck as of FAQ/Taboo 2.4. If you havn't read about that one, do it now for a genreal idea of how this deck works: https://arkhamdb.com/decklist/view/47851/a-card-to-play-the-true-magick-1.0

Rewrite the classic

The core of this deck hasn't chaged a single bit, so most of the deck really looks the same. However, many supporting cards have been replaced, the most obvious one being...

  • Underworld Support: I know I ditched it in the previous version, but since then new options have emerged and I feel like it's time to give it a try. This version looks good enough for me, but if you feel unsure then remove this, get rid of David Renfield and Guts, double down on all events except for Protecting the Anirniq.

  • Bank Job: the main reason I'd want to try an Underworld Support build. This is the secondary resource card that we are hoping for and together with Emergency Cache + Faustian Bargain should be enough to pay for the whole setup.

  • Blood of Thoth: the new taboo essentially remake this card (no longer exhaust to gain offering, cost 2 for an action, no longer remove excess offering when cashing-in the action), and now I think it deserves another try in this deck. 2 dooms can be considered free because we do that every turn once set up, so this is really a 2 cost Leo De Luca in accessory slot. I know we already have 2 utility actions per turn, but a free 3rd can't be bad, right?

  • Protecting the Anirniq: since Blood of Thoth is included, True Magick can't be consistently searched via the Relic trait, so Scroll of Secrets must be cut to free up the Tome trait, and now we are 3 card less then we used to draw, so PtA is here to fill the gap. You can always be greedy and take TM, Thoth and SoS together, but then don't complain when your TM showed up 1 turn late and another core piece is hiding in the deck.

  • The Great Work: we are already taking Charon's Obol, so might as well grab the extra free xp.

  • David Renfield: he is included as a quaternary resource card, a secondary activation key for Blood of Thoth, the primary target for Protecting the Anirniq, a taget for both Dexter Drake's ability and Calling in Favors, and a 2/1 soak. All of these packed into a single card, just beware of the doom count and any lurking Ancient Evils.

  • Guts: another cantrip can't hurt; you can replace it with Word of Command if you like.

  • Eldritch Brand: this one deserves a special mention. I didn't put it in the decklist, but I feel it could work (although with questionable outcome). The target is obviously Sixth Sense, which will take up the utility arcane slot and thus eliminating Clarity of Mind and Healing Words from the deck, The plus side is you are now starting with an investigation spell and can make progress from turn 1 action 1 even if you draw a crappy hand; the down side is that you are even more Indebted then if you draw the weakness, build the engine with 5 starting resources is hard enough, let alone 2. For me personally I just want to get my combos out ASAP, but for those having a second thought Eldritch Brand could be a consideration.
