This deck could use more XP for more card draw and another Scavenging, but it is an absolute beast & more fun to play than boring 2x Quick Learner Old Keyring Darrel.
It uses Willie T to trigger 2 Press Passes & have 5 actions for the turn, 4 of which are Mariner's Compass for 2 clues a piece + uses Scavenging of Schoffner's to pay for its items & Crafty to pay for its events, boost the stat of events/Compass & pay for specifically Matchboxes, Mariner's Compass & Research Notes.
Burning the Midnight Oil & Crack the Case really help you surge up your resources to pay for some of the more expensive assets like Press Pass and Crafty.
I was never able to assemble all the pieces to make Arcane Enlightenment + Research Notes happen, but that's another reliable source of evidence to fuel Darrel's ability & potential answer for odd clue amounts due to using Burning the Midnight Oil, Working a Hunch, or dropping a clue.
It benefits greatly from having a guardian who can Stand Together 3 and Ever Vigilant 4 to help get everything into play early. The trickiest part is convincing your teammate to wait on playing Stand Together 3 until you've exhausted Mariner's Compass for the round because you don't want to gamble on having something to pay for beforehand.
"I was never able to assemble all the pieces" maybe include less than 20 assets in a deck? There is no way you will have time to play even half of it.
