Unless I'm missing something, even George would prefer Nothing Left to Lose most of the time.

This requires waiting to accumulate supplies (starts with 2, but the other can give up to 5). That's not great if you need the money now.

Nothing Left to Lose also gives card draw, which George usually can take advantage of.

This costs one resource, for a card that you use when you're short on resources.

Nothing Left to Lose has a ? symbol in case you don't need it when you get it. (Marginal benefit, but it's there).

Pro: this can be re-used, when you re-shuffle your deck, I guess.

1 less xp here, even though survivors usually have extra xp laying around.

Maybe an insurance for Preston, as a way to easily deal with his weakness, or in general to save resources for later since they go directly to your pool. I don't see him discarding a lot of cards, though... — AlderSign · 480
It's hard to even justify using it for that role in a Preston deck when Investments exists; are you really going to be discarding more than one card a round? — Thatwasademo · 59
er uh wait this card exhausts to add a supply anyway so welp — Thatwasademo · 59
Yeah, it's bad :( — AlderSign · 480
Seems like it could be good with Yorick; even without discarding it goes Resource positive. Could combine it with Glimmer of Hope and a discard outlet for some kind of synergy? It'd be a lot nicer if it wasn't limited to 1 per Investigator. — ClassyD · 14
For George, I agree you should get Nothing Left to Lose first. For me, I think Ample Supplies is still good that you may want it, especially if your running Forced Learning since you want some redundancy. — tactis · 24
Yeah, but the exhaust really hurts. — AlderSign · 480
I think this is mostly good in Patrice, who triggers it trivially every turn and may want to have resources banked for later... but asking exp for it when E-Cache exists (which this card needs at least another round to even tie) is questionable — Shandras · 3
Ashcan Pete can build up a nest egg with this passively by feeding Duke card treats. Even if you're playing poor-man Pete, you can save up some 'emergency cash' without it impacting your zero-resources strategy. — khoshekh · 10
Wouldnt this card be broken on Patrice Hathaway? — Buzzsaw · 8
George has no assurance he's going to get Nothing Left to Lose when he needs it. Ample supplies lets you get your resource at any point, and it's also on your playing field therefore your weakness will not cast it adrift. Also it's recursive as it doesn't leave the game, so things like resourceful+gift of nodens let you pull it back out for some more resource. Make sure and play ample, then do a discard on your turn, then if you have forced learning it auto discards right after upkeeping. So the turn after you play this it will have 4 resource, which you can choose to keep around. The one thing I will say is it should start at 3 imo but it's still useful, also only 2xp — MechaStrizan · 1
@khoshekh Hm, interesting. As I read it Pete could even discard a card to trigger AND ready Ample Supplies with his ability. His ability has "Limit once per round.", so the second use this interaction allows would have to come from another discard. — AlderSign · 480
Also, I think most of the time Pete has a better use for his ability than "gain 1 resource"... — AlderSign · 480

Ok lets talk about this a bit more. George Barnaby has become one of my favourite investigators and this card tends to be an early pickup for me. I generally run Lawrence Carlisle and Burning the Midnight Oil at lvl 0 and this is usually enough to get by but can feel just a little constrained on resources at times until I start getting my important asset upgrades like... Gift of Nodens, Cornered, Bound for the Horizon, and Scavenging.

to me the number 1 comparison card is Emergency Cache when it comes to resource gain. If George has any discard cards out then Ample Supplies essentially starts with 3 supplies on it. Instant 2 resources. Forced Learning is an auto resource on every upkeep so Ample Supplies is a 1 turn delayed Emergency Cache that gets stronger every turn. A 1 turn delay to me is nothing especially when it becomes more potent the longer you hold it. That to me is definitely an upgrade in my book...

BUT E-cache costs 0 xp. oof not as good... except no one would ever take Ample Supplies unless its a discard deck... and what kind of discard deck wouldn't have Resourceful or Do-or-Die in it? now you have recursable E-Cache++.

Now lets talk about the other comparison Nothing Left to Lose. solid comparison. 5 resources, 5 cards only 1 more xp. This sounds like a great deal! Thing is we gotta look at the fine print. You only get that much if you have 0 cards in hand and 0 resources. You're playing a discard skill deck 0 cards? Easy. but do you need the card draw? probably not. you're playing George Barnaby. you have Forced Learning and your passive. you draw 6 cards a turn consistently. And if you aren't you're trying to avoid drawing to not reset your deck. Resources? Well to get 5 resources you have to spend your resources the same turn you play it... that doesn't sound like a dire need. Ok well what about 4 or 3 resources? This is more likely for the immediate need people talk about when they say Ample Supplies isn't great because of delay but as previously discussed. this basically gets you 3 resources immediately. So you are saying for 1 more xp you are getting card draw you probably don't need and roughly the same resources immediately instead of a ton of resources over time.

Now don't get me wrong. when I run out of things I really want for george I'll still pickup Nothing Left to Lose but Ample Supplies is essentially E-cache if you need immediate cash and if you don't it solves all resource needs for the rest of your game when playing George Barnaby. And if you are planning on running Scavenging, You're gonna want those extra resources.

Having said all this George Barnaby and Patrice Hathaway are probably the only investigators currently in the game that would want this card... its very niche.

George can also simply run investments for 0 xp over this if you really don't care about the main strength of resource cards, getting your money now. You're paying 2 xp over investments to start with two supplies on it. This probably only sees use in a discard scavenging deck as you can dump it every turn for 2 resources but even then, just play Schoffners at that point. George could also just play Faustian Bargain instead of trying to jump through hoops making this card pay off in 7 turns from now. — Spamamdorf · 5
