FAQs

(from the official FAQ or responses to the official rules question form)
  • Q: Regarding Heirloom of Hyperborea, the text reads "After you play a Spell card: Draw 1 card". When I play Read the Signs, when can I trigger the trigger ability of the heirloom to draw 1 card? Does it trigger when I play this card, or after I completely resolve Read the Signs and discard this card? A: Yes, the Heirloom of Hyperborea can trigger off of any Spell card its controller plays. This trigger occurs after the Spell card has resolved in full.

Heirloom of Hyperborea may look like a standard asset with draw a card when you do a specific action. However, it differs in one significant way: It does not exhaust.

When first printed there weren’t that many good spell cards, so the lack of exhaust didn’t really matter. Now there are many good spells so the limiting factor for normal Agnes is instead the lack of resources to be able to play them. Parallel Agnes can get around that limitation and is able to spam event spells, constantly drawing new cards to replace the cards just played.

There is a very good reason why all other similar cards exhaust and this is a relic from the time when they hadn’t realized that.

The best part is still that her weakness is also a spell <3 — AlderSign · 477
The heirloom is deceptively powerful because Agnes, when the game first came out, had to make due with the limited cardpool and the fact she usually run a mixed deck, being a MYSTIC/Survivor. But now that there are so many spell asset and events? Her draw power is insane, perhaps one of the strongest among Mystics. — HeroesOfTomorrow · 117
